IEBC commissioner interviews begin today after selection panel shortlists 105 candidates

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection Panel has officially begun interviews for 105 shortlisted candidates vying for commissioner positions. The process, which started Thursday, will run until April 25, 2025, with candidates appearing before the panel according to a pre-arranged schedule.

The interviews for commissioner positions come a day after the panel concluded interviews for the IEBC chairperson position.

The selection process for the chairperson, which took place from March 24 to March 26, saw 11 candidates being interviewed. Among those who faced the panel on Monday were Abdulqadir Lotfi R. Hamadhan (Baringo), Anne Atieno Amadi (Nairobi), and Charles Ayako Nyachae (Kisii).

Tuesday’s session included Erastus Edung Ethekon (Turkana), Francis Kakai Kissinger (Bungoma), Jacob Ngwele Muvengei (Machakos), and Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo (Nairobi). On Wednesday, Lilian Wanjiku Manegene (Nyeri), Robert Akumu Asembo (Homa Bay), and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa (Bungoma) concluded the interviews.

On Thursday, the selection panel began interviewing the first batch of six commissioner candidates. The candidates appearing before the panel include Abdubba Mollu Ido (Isiolo), Abdihafid Abdullahi Yarrow (Wajir), Abdihakim Adan Abdi (PWD, Wajir), Abdi Maalim Hussein (Mandera), Abraham Kipruto Langat (Nakuru), and Adhan Nuri Berhe (Tana River).

The interviews are being conducted publicly at the College of Insurance in South C, Nairobi, with all shortlisted candidates required to present their original national identification documents, academic certificates, and testimonials.

The IEBC Selection Panel has assured Kenyans of a fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process, emphasizing the critical role of the commissioners in ensuring credible future elections.
